It was good to see ten of our juniors from five clubs taking part in the 2021 SCPA Junior Championships at Southampton City Petanque Club on 30th August.

Precision Shooting
The Precision Shooting was open to any junior and we had four entries. The competitors played two rounds each and took their best score as their final result. Well done to Will, who beat Sam by 1 point to become our 2021 champion.

- Third – Tristan Kunaka (13 points)
- Fourth – Francesca Evans-Jones (10 points)

Junior Championship (Section A)
The Championship event was split into two sections, based on age and experience.
Section A comprised of Sam Rattue (Muscliff Park PC), Will Read (River Hamble PC) and Francesca Evans-Jones (Adur PC). They played each other twice during the day with some very close games.

- Runner-up – Sam Rattue
- Third – Will Read
Francesca and Sam both won all their games with just a 2 points difference splitting them. We will miss Sam and Will next year as they go the way of all juniors by becoming too old!
Junior Championship (Section B)
Section B comprised the younger, less experienced players: Tristan Kunaka, Aimee Rickman and Alex Read from Muscliff Park PC, Toby Cramp from Arundel PC, and we welcomed juniors from Portchester PC for the first time – Lewis and Charlotte Heaysman and Sasha Davies.
For this group there were seven skills activities for which points were gained in the morning and three timed games in the afternoon again for which points were gained. The results were:
- Winner – Alex Read
- Runner-up – Aimee Rickman
- Third – Lewis Heaysman
- 4th – Tristan Kunaka
- 5th – Charlotte Heaysman
- 6th – Sasha Davies
- 7th – Toby Cramp
Once again, some close results with only 1 point between winner and runner-up. All the youngsters played in good spirit and with commendable attitude which is notable in our SCPA juniors. All participants received a certificate and trophy for their participation.
Four juniors also received their White Level certificates in the National Junior Skills Award Scheme – (sponsored by Pen-y-Coed Pétanque): Lewis Heaysman, Sasha Davies, Aimee Rickman and Toby Cramp. Certificates and prizes were presented by SCPA President Steve Lombard.
Thanks to all the juniors, their parents for transport, Peter Galton for preparing the Southampton City terrain for us, our helpers on the day: Mark Duncan, Chris Chubb, Suzanne Rattue, Julia Jones, Derek Coates, and Steve Lombard.
