Muscliff Park Open Triples was held on Saturday 6 April 2019 and after two days of mopping-up the terrain, the Club was relieved when Saturday dawned with sunshine and no standing water. Sixteen teams were entered, so the competition started with four leagues of four – the top two of each going into the Gold and the remainder in the Silver.
The two teams that were destined for the gold final, YOB (Young, Old & Beautiful) comprising Graham Elcome, Marcel Roux and Hassi Leverett, and The Maidens (Sammy and Kaylee Thatcher and Karen Lombard) both qualified from the same morning league. The Gold final was highly competitive but the Maidens were always in front and came home worthy winners, reversing the result from their match against YOB earlier in the day.
In the Silver event, the Junior Cherries (14-year-old Sam Rattue, 8-year-old Matthew Butcher plus some old guy) added to their single win in the morning to take a place in the semi final but were beaten by Salmons Revenge (Adam Bancroft, Steve Fredericks and Stan).
RBG (Mick & Pat Roberts and Clifton Gonsalves) beat Muscliff’s Best and Corsican Bandits to get to the final. RBG made the most of their local advantage, beating Salmons Revenge in the Silver final.
The Gold Consolage was won by Crondell and the Silver Consolage went to Concabe (Rob & Mick Coniam & Dave McCabe), beating Muscliff’s Best.
Wendy Hall from Porchester won the ‘shoot the egg’ competition.
