Nick Hall 1937 – 2026

Nick Hall was a true gentleman. Across the Southern Counties, many referred to him simply as “a top bloke” and he truly was.

Supported throughout by Wendy, his wife of many years, Nick became a stalwart of Portchester Pétanque Club. He was instrumental in helping to establish the club in 1988, long before the present Community Centre existed. Alongside Fred Shortman, Nick devoted countless hours to creating a proper limestone terrain for members to enjoy.  The old Community Centre was also Portchester’s club house, where after matches they would congregate for refreshments!

Wherever you go to play in a match the question is always ‘how’s Nick?’

Nick an, SCPA Coach, also captained a number of teams representing Portchester Pétanque Club in the SCPA League. In the early 2000’s he was captain of a league team that was predominantly made up of juniors, a team that successfully managed to win division 4 of the SCPA league.  Nick also achieved success at regional level winning the Adult Junior competition with one of the club’s juniors.

His encouragement and inclusiveness helped inspire the next generation of players. The last team he captained was Portchester Pumas.

Nick’s contribution to the club and to many of its members will not be forgotten.  He would always offer to help and to everyone who got to know him, he will certainly be remembered.

Rest in Peace Nick
