The inaugural event on Southsea’s new ‘beachside’ terrain was held on Sunday 13th May. Being a small ground entries were limited, and the competition was ran as a 5 round snake. There was an added twist of a final for 1st/2nd ranked, 3rd/4th play-off, and to keep interest once games were lost, a wooden spoon play-off to try and avoid.
The sun shone all day, and this helped everyone enjoy what turned out to be a very long day.
Rankings at the end of the snake were:
- Finalist 1 : Southern Pinnacles – 5 wins
- Finalist 2 : Foxdale – 4 wins (+35)
- 3rd/4th playoff : Oi – 4 wins (+32)
- 3rd/4th play-off : Ware’s Wallies (+29)
- Spoon play-off : Wishful Thinking
- Spoon play-off : Gerry and the Pacemakers
Gerry and the Pacemakers pulled off their first win of the day in the Spoon play-off to leave Wishful Thinking clutching pink spoons.
Oi overcame Ware’s Wallies relatively easily to claim 3rd Place in the 3rd/4th play-off.
Southern Pinnacles had already beaten Foxdale in the snake, but things worked out differently in the final. Pinnacles quickly went 12-0 down. A switch of first pointers start drawing out early shots, and the embarrassment of a Final Fanny was avoided, but the fightback stalled at 6 points.
Winners of the event were Foxdale consisting of Lee Jamieson, Ange Jamieson and Bob Bish.
Many thanks to all who attended and made the day enjoyable.
