Accolades & admiration for the Southern Dream Team at Bath Open
Well done to Steve Daykin, Callum Lombard and Jamie Brooks on yet another Gold win.
This time the trio travelled to City of Bath for their popular Open Triples annual competition. Winning every game and dropping just 17 points all day, the team impressed their opponents and spectators with some excellent display of technical and tactical play. The crowds were also kept entertained in between games and at lunch time as Steve, Callum & Jamie showcased their skills of shooting at 15m.
City of Bath Petanque Club put on a great competition, with many local teams playing alongside those that had travelled further a field, including teams from Guernsey and the Heart of England. There was a good Southern contingent present, with players from Muscliff, Parley, Cobbetts, River Hamble, Adur, Southampton and Fareham. Hassi Leverett & Graham Elcome (with Duncan Brown) had received a special invitation from PE Veterans’ coach Clive de Silva, and played as England Veterans 2. They narrowly missed out on making the Gold having lost one game in the morning and went on to play in the Silver finals in a close-fought match against a local Bath team.
Set high up with the most picturesque back drop and stunning views of Bath, the hospitality and warm welcome extended by all at CoB PC made the day an exceptionally fun day… and another great win for Southern’s dream team!
